The National University of Mexico's Centro de Investigaciones Multidisciplinarias sobre Chiapas y la Frontera Sur (CIMSUR) has extended W. George Lovell the honor of having his research on neighboring Guatemala be the focus of a two-day forum to take place in San Cristóbal de las Casas on October 27 and 28, 2026. Critiques of George's work on the region will feature presentations by four eminent scholars, Drs. Santiago Bastos, Verónica Ruiz, Aaron Pollak, and Ruth Piedrasanta, to whose remarks George is invited to respond.
Following the Mexican forum, George will make his way to Guatemala and deliver two talks in November, one at the Academia de GeografÃa e Historia de Guatemala in Guatemala City and another, sponsored by the Centro de Investicaciones Regionales de Mesoamérica, in Antigua Guatemala.
