Samantha Nicholls

Â鶹¹ÙÍø

Currently a second-year PhD student in the Department of History at Â鶹¹ÙÍø's University, Sam's research investigates Canadian women's responses to prescriptive literature on motherhood, and the tensions between notions of "mother knows best" and scientific childrearing in second half of the twentieth century. Her research pays considerable attention to the firsthand accounts of women using both oral histories and archival research, and is conceptually rooted in intersectional feminism, and interdisciplinary literature.

An enthusiastic and compassionate leader, Sam has worked as a Historical Researcher specializing in genealogical research for large-scale community projects. She has also worked in several museums local to Kingston, ON in programming, research, and interpretive planning roles. As a proud daughter of a CAF Veteran, Sam also works closely with Veteran communities to co-create mental health resources for Veteran Families, specifically youth, reaching toward the betterment of mental health resources for children of Veterans and Veteran Families across Canada.
