�鶹�� is joining the Blue University network, a global network of post-secondary institutions committed to advancing sustainable water stewardship.

The Office of the Principal and Vice-Chancellor is hosting a signing ceremony at Breakwater Park on September 17, from 4 - 5:30 pm, to officially celebrate �鶹��'s membership. Principal Patrick Deane will sign a certificate presented by founder of the Blue Community movement, Maude Barlow, and both will provide remarks. Other speakers include Alexander Wong-Ma, AMS Commissioner of Environmental Sustainability and David McDonald, Professor, Global Development Studies.

No registration is required to attend. All attendees are invited to jump in Lake Ontario following the signing!

A large tent will be set up in case of rain and food will be served at the event. As part of our commitment to reducing waste, the event will be a zero-waste event featuring compostable materials and multi-sort recycling and organics bins with visual guides available on-site.

The Special Recognition for Staff Awards recognize �鶹��'s University staff members who consistently provide outstanding contributions during their workday, directly or indirectly, to the learning and working environment at a level significantly beyond what is usually expected.

The award recipients were announced in April in the �鶹��'s Gazette.

For 2025, nine individuals and one team are being recognized for their incredible work and accomplishments across the university.

“These awards recognize the exceptional contributions of individual staff members and teams whose work strengthens our community and enriches the experiences of students, staff, faculty, and partners,” says Patrick Deane, Principal and Vice-Chancellor. “On behalf of the university, I extend my sincere congratulations to this year’s recipients. Your dedication, innovation, and commitment to excellence are evident in the impact you have across campus. Through your important work, you also contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, helping to build a more inclusive, sustainable, and resilient future. We are deeply grateful for all that you do for �鶹��’s and the broader community.”

�鶹��'s staff and faculty are invited to a BBQ on Tuesday, June 2, 2026 at Agnes Benidickson Field (behind Grant Hall) from 11:30 am – 1 pm. A large tent will be set up in case of rain and accessibility mats will be in use to provide a smooth and stable surface.

Tables representing the eight Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) at �鶹��'s will be at the event providing information about membership and upcoming opportunities. Those attending the BBQ are welcome to stop by and learn more about the 8 ERGs at �鶹��'s.

AmeIyoba Threads for Change is a student-led sustainable thrift event that transforms donated clothing into community impact. In response to the high volume of waste generated during student move out periods, this initiative collects gently used clothing, shoes, and accessories and redistributes them through an affordable pop up thrift sale.

The event promotes sustainable consumption by extending the life cycle of clothing and reducing textile waste, while also making affordable clothing accessible to students. All proceeds support the AmeIyoba Centre for Women and Children, a nonprofit organization focused on advancing access to education, health resources, and community support for women and children.

Through this initiative, we aim to foster a culture of sustainability, community engagement, and social responsibility on campus.

This event is open to all audiences and is free to attend. Registration is not required.

This event is a part of �鶹��’s participation in #SDGMonthCanada, a nation-wide commitment to mobilizing the SDGs across campuses.
