Academic Contracts Procedure

Contact Officer: Provost and Vice-Principal (Academic) or designate

Purpose

The purpose of this procedure is to describe the process for entering into Academic Contracts.

Procedure - Organizational Unit

  1. When a need for an Academic Contract is identified, the department/Faculty must inform the Provost and VP Academic as early as possible in the process to ensure proper consultation is undertaken.

  2. Academic Contracts with a counter-party outside of Canada must be reviewed and approved by the Office of the Vice Provost, Global Engagement (VPGE). Initial consultation with VPGE is necessary to identify any preliminary concerns with the location/proposed partner(s). Submission to University Contracts for legal review should only occur once any such preliminary concerns have been resolved.

  3. Proposals for new programs and changes to existing programs require internal approval by the Senate. New programs also require appraisal by the Quality Council (QC) appraisal committee: Â鶹¹ÙÍø Quality Assurance Processes.

  4.  Academic Contracts, with the exception of Â鶹¹Ù꿉۪s degrees (including dual degree or articulation program agreements), must be submitted to University Contracts for legal review before final contract approval and signature may occur.

  5. Once all required approvals have been obtained, the Academic Contract must be executed in accordance with the Contract and Invoice Signing Authority, Approval, and Execution Policy.
